Born in Blackfoot, Idaho, just off the reservation, Sam grew up riding horses on the tributaries of the Snake River.  Her background of rural life, breaking horses, working cattle and sheep, gave her all the true life experiences to write about in her poetry.

Her alter-ego, HILDA, is a six foot four, 300 pound plus trail drive camp cook.  Stories of HILDA have entertained audiences all over the West.  Stories of the rancher’s wife depict the hilarious times as well as the tearful hard times.

Same was twice named female poet of the year by the Western Music Association, Utah Chapter, is a Cowboy Poetry.com Lariat Laureate, Cowboy Poets of Idaho Silver Quill recipient, 2006 and 2007 WMA top five finalist female poet and multi-buckle winner at the only Cowboy Poetry Rodeo in Kanab, Utah.  She is a past president of the Cowboy Poets of Utah and currently serves as the President of the Western Music Association/Utah Chapter.
